Movie Genres that I Like

Cinema - the seventh art – deserves appreciation. There are two types of movies: one is serious, designed to make the audience think, and the other one entertains and amuses moviegoers. I like both genres because the former educates me and the latter entertains me. Every seriously-made film is a lesson. For instance, "Hachiko," released in 2008, is a lesson about love and loyalty. “The Pursuit of Happ y ness” featuring Will Smith, teaches me how unfair life is and how not to give up pursuing happiness and dreams. Another example is the Korean thriller, “I Saw the Devil” starring two household names Choi Min Sik and Lee Byung Hun. The film shows me how cruel life can be and the consequences of the cycle of vengeance and hatred. On the other hand, the “Hacksaw Ridge” teaches me that we can express courage and commitment differently. In short, this type of motion picture teaches me about love and loyalty, in-your-face reality and determination to overcome it, consequences of v...

Why First Offender Recommit Crimes

There has been a growth in the number of offenders that commit more crimes after serving the first punishment. The reason is that the convicts face social biases and judgments after being out of prison. In terms of the problem, the authority needs to support the first offenders in getting back into the community by guaranteeing them a legal source of income. Also, the government should educate the communities in correcting their perception of the convicts.  People tend to have negative opinions about the convicts regardless of the offenders’ crimes. They consider offenders are deceptive and dangerous to the community. As a result, many offenders who desperately want to change their lives struggle to rejoin society because society labels them as criminals. The convicts lose personal relationships and previous occupations after serving the first punishment. To get by, unfortunately, many of them commit crimes once again. In short, it is the society that indirectly pushes the offender...

The Lady with the Dog

Gurov’s Change of Attitude Toward Women Before and After Meeting Anna Anton Chekov ’s  The Lady with the Dog  depicted a love story of Dmitri Dmitrich Gurov and Anna Sergeyevna; a secret affair of two persons who contradicted each other in many aspects but ended up being together. If it were merely a simple love story like that, the Lady with the Dog wouldn’t have been praised as one of the best short stories in Russia. Indeed, Anton Chekov’s success with the story was that he built up a world where the characters evolved one way or another. Additionally, the author invited the readers to follow every little inner change of the characters. And Gurov, whose attitude toward women was gradually challenged, was the one that captivated the readers the most. Dmitri Dmitrich Gurov was a forty-year-old banker, who married, and had three children. He represented a new force of the upper class in Russia at the time: wealthy, educated, open-minded, and had a model-like family. Materially...

Changes In the New Era

The twenty-first century has come. This new century has brought changes to every aspect of our daily life, especially in communication, transportation, and education. One of the greatest inventions in the twenty-first century is the Internet. The Internet completely changes the way we communicate; it makes the geographic distance meaningless and accelerates the pace that people connect compared with when people did before the Internet era. Back in the day, it took lots of time and cost to be able to make calls from this side of the globe to the other. Now, we can contact whomever we wish almost instantly at a much lesser cost. Undoubtedly, the Internet has created an unprecedented leap in the evolution of humankind. The technological advances have boosted automaking, shipping, and aircraft manufacturing to a whole new level. Firstly, the automobile manufacturing industry makes faster and stronger engines enabling us to save time and cost by shortening the driving distance. Se...

The Aging Population

The citizens in developed countries are enjoying a longer life expectancy. Because of the advanced healthcare system, the population lives longer than people in other regions. However, the aging population will also negatively affect both society and individuals: it will encounter challenges, and the younger generation will struggle to cope with the impacts. The blessing exacts a toll on the national healthcare budget. The government will have to spend more to take care of the well-being of the aging generations. For instance, the fund for medical services shall double, and the budget for establishing healthcare centers may triple. In addition, the domestic labor force will shrink. The increase in the age of the population means a decrease in regulative working ages. When one generation of the labor force retires, the best scenario is that a successive younger generation will fill in the gap that the former leaves behind. On the other hand, the worst case is that the number of the su...

Advantages and Disadvantages

Having a new university established is a serious matter but choosing a place to build it is also significant. The location where the university is shall affect the community surrounding it. So, there are advantages and disadvantages to setting up a university in my community. For starters, the local youths shall have another option to choose when they want to pursue higher education. It will be more convenient for them to study at the university near home. They won’t need to go a long way to the campus or struggle to find a dorm near the university. Another perk is that the establishment will directly or indirectly improve the infrastructure around the university. To provide a safe and high-quality environment encompassing the university, the roads, transportation and communicative system, housing, or even the park may get an upgrade. Finally, establishing a new university will create more jobs for the community. For instance, more local construction workers and experts may have a sh...

A Gift for Kids

A gift represents what the givers wish to express to the recipients. I would give a child a book if I were to help them develop. Books are beneficial to children in several ways. First, books help kids develop language abilities. Children who read books regularly more quickly acquire basic grammar than those who do not. Additionally, they are more familiar with written words and can read faster than their peers. Second, reading books nurtures the habit of reading in children. Kids' minds are like the white papers that when we write something on them, it is there permanently. Besides, their minds have not fully developed yet and are easily affected by adults. So, most children may gradually be interested in reading when adults introduce books to them. In the long term, children who have the habit of reading often excel in the classes and succeed in later careers. Next, reading books is one of the healthy ways to keep children from harm. The harm may be both physical and psyc...
